Here’s the latest on the upcoming Andrew Bird album we first told you about a while ago. For Birdmaniacs, the news is all good. First off, Fat Possum has moved the release date for Noble Beast up a week, to January 20, so that’s seven days less of hand-wringing and breathless anticipation for you. Second, and even more intriguing, is that the deluxe version (physical release only — sorry, digital dudes and dolls) will come packaged with a bonus disc entitled Useless Creatures, an all-instrumental album that finds Bird working in tandem with bassist Todd Sickafoose and drummer Glen Kotche. And if that wasn’t enough, the whole thing comes in an elaborate package that will include a fold-out poster (what is this, the ’70s?) and an illustrated, 24-page lyric booklet.prefixmag

Oh god here we go again. Admins again i ask WHY THE HELL DID YOU MOVE TO BAYWORDS???? If you are going to cowtow to Giacobbi the moron. I know that your response will once again be “If the artist asks us to remove…” and once again i call BULLSHIT. 95% of the artists whose content you link to on this site do not want you to put their releases up and yet you do it. Giving in to this schmuck when you know full well being on baywords that he cannot do shit to you is ridiculous. In fact this guy cannot do shit to anyone. He has no legal powers at all. And hey John, contrary to your crap statements you have not had any success AT ALL. Check out Pirate Bay and many other places on the net and see how tons of Prince releases are out there. Much success you had with that one buddy.
Seriously though Bolachas, you are in a position to tell this piece of dirt to go stick his letter up his ass so do it. Giving in to this only gives him a fleeting moment of success he can use to persuade other artists to use him.

And for those of you looking for Noble Son, do a google search and you will find it. It is linked on plenty of other blogs such as Ateaseweb as well as torrent sites. Easy to find and when one link goes down another fresh one goes up. The sheriff aint that quick on the draw

We contribuite see the bands live and maybe buy t shirts, that’s where artists make money.
Itunes make money selling records not them.
Plus, sheriff please don’t quit your daily job,if you have some spare time you can check important stuff like the thousands of pedofile and hackers sites around the internet world and don’t bother poor real music fans.

If you pirate the album, you’re stealing the artist’s work, which many people have worked long and hard to offer you in a fair, good-faith, and quality manner. Compressed audio files are inferior and undo much studio work. Artists need to pay the bills (imagine a less stable job than singer/songwriter…hard to do, isn’t it?).

Most people that pirate the album this early are avid fans and will buy the album once it comes out. Nothing wrong with just getting an early copy. Yes it is less quality, which is why they’ll jump on the actual disc once it’s released. On top of that, they’ll buy the album at Andrew Bird’s live shows as well as other merchandise like shirts to support him directly rather than giving a substantial percentage of the profits made by the album to the record label and stores that carry them.

Plus people love sharing music. Not just over P2P networks, but in person. Sharing a music collection is an activity enjoyed by many. More people will hear about Andrew Bird, gaining him more fans and having more people support him at live shows where, as said above, anything sold gives him pure profit.

There is no denying that piracy is stealing and in most cases is wrong, but it’s not entirely correct to say it’s bad for the artists. The record labels, yes, but not the artists.

As a recording artist – I can tell you that leaking an album without an artist’s consent should absolutely be punishable by federal law. We make next to nothing from our recordings and “Asdf” is right… we make most of our money through merchandising or ticket sales. This is still reduced to rubble after bands pay their label back for recoup on production costs, tour support, promotional costs, and buying physical copies of their music from the label to sell on tour. Most bands end up in debt. Your non-compliance and shitty attitudes are fine examples of being spoiled, rotten brats. You’re pathetic. It takes a lot of time and effort to make exceptional music. It’s not easy. Artists deserve to be paid for their efforts in entertaining you or emotionally moving you. We all starve for your fucking ears. I highly doubt that even 50% of you who download Andrew Bird’s latest will actually buy a copy. And to “Asdf”, we make most of our money distributing our record through iTunes so I’m not sure where you got that information from?

Open your minds and open your ears. Please stop stealing.

FACT: Career sales trump one-hit-wonders. Touring and merch trumps album sales. How does this happen? AWARENESS. How do people become aware of bands in a way that inclines them to make a connection and develop loyalty in the iPod era? I’ll let you guys figure that one out, but it’s not happening on MTV or ClearChannel-owned radio stations.

FACT: A download is not a lost sale. The kids with the most MP3s are hoarding them because they can, not because they’re trying to save money on paying for CDs. No one is ever going to go out and buy 5-10 albums a week, but that’s about how many a good chunk of us download.

FACT: Promotion costs money. Record companies routinely lose tons of cash on bands that sell 100k and call it a career. During the late ’90s heyday, they could offset this with the Backstreet Boys, but that was never going to last.

FACT: Promoting your album by letting people listen to it online so they can go out and buy it or see you on tour, and letting buzz build organically through word of mouth? FREE.

FACT: The audience that pirates albums is often a totally different market than the one that still buys CDs. Downloading is never going to cannibalize CD sales – they’re two seperate entities.

Here we go again.

There’s NO WAY I could find those records here (Venezuela). Too bad I am not into the Backstreet boys.

Thank you! :D
(Note: I haven’t bought a cd in years, but i do go to concerts and buy merchandise. It is the sound, the music, that I care about, not the medium, the physical stuff in which it gets to me – cd or whatever. So stop crying and go make some more quality music!)
