Y’know, I’m not the RIAA, but it strikes me that this is stealing, pure and simple. This is a record that is widely available (eMusic, for example) at low cost- to be distributing it here constitutes selfish theft.

@ huh (about the web sheriff’s ‘failure)
The fact that it took this long to leak is a resounding success, not any sort of failure on the websherif’s part. I hate to defend the guy but he did real good. As some physical copies have shipped a leak was completely unavoidable. This leak could have happened months ago, but it didn’t, which makes this one of the more successfully defended releases of recent.

(Re: Expletives Above)

It seems some people have not learnt anything from the music of Animal Collective.

To Web Sheriff… you have done an awe inspiring job at tackling even the most obscure of foes. But to quote a terrible film, “Numbers don’t win a battle…. No. But they probably help.”, the result was inevitable.

Most of us have now heard a taste of what is to be a ground breaking psych/pop blend. An aural assault so fierce, so beautiful, so fantastic and utterly original. I say taste because, although the quality is good, I feel we are missing some of the bass end where a real beast lays in waiting.

I have pre-ordered the vinyl which comes with .wav quality download voucher and the largest version of that mind altering artwork.

A Merriweather Christmas to one and all… X

Ok let me respond to a few of these last comments which are clearly people having no idea what they are talking about

Mack-You are so wrong. In today’s music arena, the only true success measured against leaks is to stop a release coming out about 2 weeks to a week and a half before release date. The reason being is that once a cd is sent to the pressing plants which is usually 2 weeks before release then the artist can no longer protect it from getting out. This being a Jan 20th release date it has failed in that regard. And not only is there a rip from mistakenly shipped vinyls but also there is a 160kbps rip from a cd copy. And the cd’s were all supposedly watermarked to stop this. So no in fact Johnny the Web Sheriff has failed miserably(once again)

Rents-No Web Sheriff has not done anything and you are pretty dumb , ignorant or you actually are him or someone who works for him posting. He has not had an ounce of success with any artist he has represented.

Finally Ianc- that 320 rip is just a transcode from the 128 vinyl meaning someone ripped from the 128 rip and that would make it sound worse.

43
Author:  khonnor | Date:  December 27, 2008 | Time:  11:10 pm

whoa, mr huh dude,
1. is politeness a difficult task for you?
2. to be correct, the album’s release date is the 12 th of Jan in Europe, so it DID only leak 2 weeks in advance….

44
Author:  Mack | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  2:20 am

Huh-Note that the earliest release is the US vinyl release on the 6th. This is less than 2 weeks away. As the current leak still leaves something to be desired in terms of quality many people, including myself, are still looking forward to the release. Whether you like it or not the web sheriff has done his job.

45
Author:  Frank_Einstein | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  2:36 am

Hey Mack — isn’t Web Sheriff’s job just telling people who have already posted files from his clients not to keep posting them? It’s not like he handcuffs the master recording in a briefcase to his wrist and walks it over from the label to the manufacturer and back again. I mean, I could tell people not to post stuff too. But no one pays me to do that. So yes, job well done indeed.

46
Author:  huh | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  3:03 am

Mack-wrong again bub. How did he do his job? The record is out well before street date. Plain and simple. While yes there will be better high quality versions out in the next few days, it is still failure on his and the record companies part. I can promise you that the so called Sheriff, Domino records and the band don’t feel as if he has done his job. Not to mention that he did not really do anything to stop the leak up to this point. The only reason promos were not leaked before this is because every single person who got a copy was told that his was specifically watermarked with his name and not just on the cd but in each actual track. Embedded in it with no way to remove it which is actually more than they do with other releases. There was no protected stream this time. As far as i know the Web Sheriff has nothing to do with any of this. All he does is send these dumb letters that no one really gives 2 shits about. So in all honesty if you want to give credit for keeping it off the net for this long, maybe you should send your congratulations out to Domino and their engineers.

47
Author:  Odemus | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  6:40 am

For some reason I picture the Web Sheriff sitting at his computer in a rent-a-cop uniform with a night stick just banging his fists and shouting about how he gets no respect.

48
Author:  Mack | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  7:22 am

Huh – In that case you’re criticizing the web sheriff for something he has nothing to do with, and if his job is to simply find leaks and send out letters then congrats to him for finding such an easy job. And again, the first release is on the 6th; within this 2 week critical time period that you established.

49
Author:  huh | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  7:34 am

Mack-nice try but nah. I never criticized him for anything. I made fun of him because HE THINKS he does something and causes things to not leak. So when they do leak, whenever that might be before street date, its always fun to mock him. And yes congrats on him for duping labels and artists into thinking he provides some service which we all know he does not. But ya know labels are pretty stupid anyway. And yes the vinyl was ripped within the 2 week critical time period but the cd which is not coming out till the 20th was ripped as well and that is well before 2 weeks.

I am gonna leave it at that because it is becoming quite clear to me Mack that you are aligned in some way with the Sheriff or Domino etc. So you can continue to argue to futility the success of the prevention as the rest of us enjoy the new record well before its due out :)

50
Author:  huh | Date:  December 28, 2008 | Time:  10:36 am

Oh and i forgot to reply to khonnor
1)Give me a break with the politeness. You have your way and i have mine
2)Instead of advising me on my etiquette, maybe you should bone up on your calculation skills. If the record is due out on the 12th as you say and it was leaked on the 25th ill be damned if i know how you got that amount of time as equal to 2 weeks

@ huh – you should try leaving the house sometimes, it will do you the world of good.

every album these days leaks, i doubt anyone at domino or any other record company is conceited enough to think they can stop an album leaking before it is physically in the shops. the only thing they can do is to try to stop this happening for as long as possible, and thats exactly what has happened with this album. compare how log this album went without leaking and you’ll see what a success it has been. the fact that theres still people asking for the link shows it is not even a widespread or full quality leak yet. i cant think of any other big album in recent memory that comes close.
